The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has approved requests from WestJet to operate international service, through codeshares, to Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore, PAX has learned.

After nearly 50 years in the travel industry, Jacques Gilbert has announced his plan to officially retire from the business. The AVP of client relationships at Manulife spoke to PAX about his career, which started in the 1970s at Quebec Air. Later in life, he worked at Transat Holidays and became a partner at Pottruff & Smith. “What I’m going to miss the most is the people,” Gilbert tells PAX.

WestJet's proposed acquisition of Sunwing Vacations and Sunwing Airlines has passed the public interest test and has received the support of the federal government, according to the Globe And Mail, which is reporting that Ottawa will approve the pending deal.

The Bank of Montreal (BMO) has signed a deal to acquire the Air Miles reward program from LoyaltyOne Co., it was announced Friday (March 10). The acquisition aims to reinvigorate one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs and BMO says it is "well positioned" to strengthen and grow the popular program.

Transat A.T.'s shareholders have elected new directors following a meeting on Thursday (May 9). Annick Guérard, president and CEO, as well as Lucie Chabot, Valérie Chort, Daniel Desjardins, Susan Kudzman, Stéphane Lefebvre, Ian Rae and Julie Tremblay were re-elected. The board welcomes Geneviève Brouillette, Robert Coallier and Bruno Matheu as new members. Kudzman was also appointed chair of the board.

“Transat is on an upswing and is headed for a return to profitability,” said Annick Guérard, president and CEO of Transat A.T., sharing the company’s Q1 results on Thursday (March 9). The company's net loss amounted to $56.6 million, but Q1 revenues more than tripled compared with the corresponding quarter last year.
