Porter Airlines is relaunching its VIPorter loyalty program as it begins new Embraer E195-E2 jet service on Feb. 1, 2023. The program's new structure expands membership levels, adds benefits and makes it easier for frequent economy travellers to earn the perks they value faster than with any other Canadian airline.

The 2023 forecast shows that Jamaica is on track to achieve 11% growth, reports the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB). As the destination recovery has outpaced earlier projections, there is a "high possibility" that full recovery could be realized a year earlier than predicted," the JTB says. The announcement was made at FITUR, an annual trade show in Spain.

Cunard is offering guests a chance to experience a Rocky Mountaineer train when they sail through Alaska on Queen Elizabeth this summer. Latia Duncombe has been named Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation for the Bahamas. Mrs. Duncombe is the seventh executive named director general in the Ministry of Tourism's 54th year and the third female to be appointed as technical head.

Ottawa has announced its intentions to launch commercial space activities in Canada on a "case-by-case basis." Geographically, Canada is "well-positioned" to support space launches,” the government noted in a press release. “However, its regulatory framework needs to be modernized to address all aspects associated with this emerging industry.”

Dancing LED-lit lions ushered in good luck Thursday night (Jan. 19) as The Hong Kong Tourism Board held a Lunar New Year party at Artscape Daniels Launchpad in Toronto with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office. Hong Kong is open for tourism, and next week, Michael Lim, HKTB's director for Canada, will be exploring everything the city has to offer.

The Canadian Association of Tour Operators (CATO) says the Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s (TICO’s) Compensation Fund, which is currently under review, should be “at minimum” co-funded by consumers - "natural personals” and not corporations. TICO is currently in a stage of transformation as it undergoes an end-to-end review of its funding framework, services and Compensation Fund.
