Phil Sproul, a longtime veteran of the travel industry, has joined Huntington Travel Group as Chief Executive Officer, taking control of the well-known consolidator and tours arm, Escapades by Huntington. Sproul will oversee further development of the Canadian market while expanding the existing business in the United States.

Sunwing has cancelled many flights out of Regina, Saskatchewan for the rest of winter, effective Feb. 4, according to a memo that was sent to travel advisors on Tuesday (Jan. 17). The change impacts weekly flights from Regina to Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. However, the tour operator will still fly to Puerto Vallarta on Sundays and operate a Family Day weekend schedule.

Luxury houseboat rental company Le Boat has announced that it will expand further into Ottawa for its 2023 season, beginning May 19, 2023.
The company has long included Ottawa in its itineraries since its launch on the Rideau Canal in 2018. It is now adding Dows Lake Pavilion as a new satellite base.

Iberostar Beachfront Resorts has announced the reopening of Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus in Bayahíbe, Dominican Republic, after a complete renovation of its 528 rooms and most of its facilities throughout 2022. Among the upgrades include new additions to Star Camp for children and teenagers.

Saskatchewan’s small business community, which includes travel advisors, is pushing back against Air Canada’s decision to suspend service between the province and Calgary, Alberta. On Monday (Jan. 16), Air Canada cut flights between Calgary and Regina and Saskatoon, leaving travellers in Saskatchewan with one airline to get them between the cities for the next few months.
