The Association of Canadian Independent Travel Advisors (ACITA) says it is “unacceptable" that Sunwing has cancelled flights at Regina and Saskatoon airports for more than a month. In a statement Thursday (Jan. 5), the grassroots group, addressing the move that is costing agents thousands in commission, vowed to continue to push governments for legislation that will “protect us for the work we do.”

Delta Air Lines has become first major U.S. carrier to introduce free Wi-Fi for all passengers, the carrier announced Thursday (Jan. 5). The T-Mobile service will appear on more than 700 Viasat-equipped aircraft by the end of 2023, with full availability on international and regional aircraft by the end of 2024.

MSC Cruises wished bon voyage to guests aboard MSC Poesia and MSC Magnifica on Thursday (Jan. 5) as the two ships departed from Genoa, Italy for simultaneous world cruises – "an industry first," the cruise line says. The two ships will part ways at the edge of the Mediterranean for different routes around the globe.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has charged Luis Da Silva, operating as Bwiti Canada, with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered. It is alleged that Luis Da Silva operates out of Mississauga, ON, selling wellness and healing retreats.

Sunwing is apologizing to travel advisors in Saskatchewan for crushing more than a month’s worth of bookings after it decided last week to temporarily suspend service out of Regina and Saskatoon airports. The statement comes after PAX, on Wednesday, profiled three travel advisors who are losing thousands of dollars in commission due to the last-minute cancelled service.

Canada’s pre-departure COVID-19 test requirement for people flying from China, Hong Kong and Macao kicked in today (Jan. 5). Travellers arriving must test negative for COVID before leaving for Canada, Ottawa says. EU officials, meanwhile, have "strongly" recommended that all member states insist on negative COVID tests from passengers arriving from China before they travel.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says Canada's holiday travel crisis is an example of why there should be more airline competition in Canada. His remarks come as the Conservatives and NDP demand answers from travel companies on what caused the operational breakdowns that left hundreds of Canadians stranded over the holidays.
