Canada was in the spotlight at a press conference held yesterday (May 12) at the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) at Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort as Air Transat's Renée Boisvert, Sunwing's Eric Rodriguez and Air Canada Vacations' Dina Bertolo met with the country's Minister of Tourism and President to sign an agreement to promote new air routes and grow tourism. The disruptions that rattled Jamaica’s air traffic on Thursday (May 12) have been resolved, says the Jamaica Tourist Board in an update to partners. Following a turbulent day that left some 10,000 travellers in limbo after air traffic controllers went on strike, effectively closing Jamaica’s air space, carriers resumed operations into Montego Bay’s Sangster and Kingston’s Norman Manley international airports Friday morning.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra on Wednesday (May 11) addressed the long lines that have been reported at security checkpoints at multiple Canadian airports, saying that rusty travellers and uneven flight volumes are to blame for the longer-than-usual delays. It's not a staffing shortage, he said, as was previously reported. But industry experts disagree.
