Keep your shoes, belt and light jacket on. Ottawa announced a revamp of its trusted-traveller program on Tuesday (May 23) to help speed up security lines at airports as the busy summer season begins. Eligible travellers will be allowed to keep laptops, large electronics and compliant liquids in their carry on, said Transport Minister Omar Alghabra.

Swoop scoop: PAX has obtained an executive summary of the tentative four-year agreement between the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and The WestJet Group and one of the terms is that budget carrier Swoop be fully integrated into WestJet’s mainline by October 2024.

Starting Dec. 1, Air Canada will begin non-stop, year-round service between Toronto and Yellowknife. The three-times weekly service will provide connections between eastern Canada and the capital of the Northwest Territories. As well, customers will also be able to connect onward from Yellowknife with interline partner Canadian North.

One travel advisor is calling the last 24 hours "a roller-coaster" after WestJet, cancelling a third of its operations yesterday, announced a tentative deal with its pilots, averting a strike that would have kicked in ahead of the May long weekend. PAX spoke to three travel pros, who collectively praised the update as good news. But challenges remain.

Canada Jetlines has signed a contract with a "leading cruise company" that will see the carrier provide charter operations this July and August, according to a press release issued this week. In February, Jetlines' CCO Duncan Bureau indicated that a cruise partnership was coming to complete flights to Melbourne, Florida, which were earlier postponed.

Air Canada Vacations' transition from one groups system to another is “nearing completion," the company said in a newsletter to the trade on Thursday (May 18). As a result, adjustments have been made to connectors, deviations and last-minute group departures. Agents can also earn bonus commission through ACV's “Book Your Own Group” promo.
