Travel advisors in Saskatchewan are starting 2023 with disappointed clients, mounting paperwork and thousands of dollars in lost income after Sunwing, last week, suspended flights out of Saskatoon and Regina for more than a month. The move has cancelled bookings and commissions aren't protected. "I’m literally out tens of thousands of dollars,” said travel advisor Ashley Doell.

IATA’s Director General Willie Walsh is disappointed that countries have introduced COVID-19 testing and other measures for travellers from China as the virus is "already circulating widely" within their borders. “It is extremely disappointing to see this knee-jerk reinstatement of measures that have proven ineffective over the last three years,” said Walsh on Jan. 4.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is reducing its cleaning services in staterooms aboard all of its ships in 2023, according to a leaked memo that was recently sent to crew. According to the letter, which was first published on Crew Centre, NCL will adjust its current daily stateroom (turn-down) service provided to guests in all categories below a suite level.

Holland America Line is debuting a 28-day Arctic Circle itinerary that includes 12 Alaska ports, longer 14-day voyages and 117 weeklong journeys. From April through September 2024, guests can embark on cruises to Alaska aboard Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zaandam.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that chef and restauranteur Emeril Lagasse will serve as its chief culinary officer. Travellers heading to Hong Kong are no longer required to undergo a mandatory PCR test upon arrival, the Hong Kong SAR Government announced. In addition, the city's Vaccine Pass has been lifted. Meanwhile, Canada has announced new testing rules for travellers arriving from China.
