“We are deeply saddened”: Travel industry reacts to death of Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history and Canada’s head of state, passed away on Thursday (Sept. 8). She was 96. VisitBritain is "deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty The Queen and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Royal family at this time." Globus' Stephanie Bishop, British Airways and WTTC President Julia Simpson also share their condolences.

Rocky Mountaineer alters itineraries due to Jasper wildfire; tourists asked to stay away

A wildfire on Chetamon Mountain in Jasper National Park has forced Rocky Mountaineer to reroute some rail itineraries. According to a Sept. 8 advisory, the company has changed its upcoming “Journey through the Clouds” and “Rainforest to Gold Rush” departures as “we are unable to travel to or from Jasper while this emergency is underway.”

New air passenger protection rules kick in today

New protections for air travellers kick in today (Sept. 8) as the Canadian Transport Agency tries to close a loophole that left some passengers unable to get refunds during the onset of the pandemic when thousands of flights were cancelled. Airlines now have to refund travellers for cancellations and lengthy delays if they can't be rebooked on another flight within 48 hours — even when airlines are not at fault.
