Anaheim and the Orange County tourism community is rolling out the red carpet this week (June 1-5) as thousands of travel exhibitors and media from around the world gather for the 51st annual IPW, the U.S. Travel Association’s leading international inbound travel trade show.
What organizers call “a national showcase of America,” the mega event connects travel exhibitors with travel buyers and media from more than 70 countries to promote products and negotiate future business and build relationships.
Brand USA, the destination marketing organization for the U.S, will serve as IPW’s premier sponsor.
“We are thrilled to have international travellers experience the United States, the warmth of its people and the limitless potential of the U.S. as a premier travel destination,” Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association and Chris Thompson, president and CEO of Brand USA, said in a joint statement.
Organizers estimate that this year's IPW will drive $4.7 billion USD in future travel to the United States.
Anaheim Convention Center will serve as the week’s official home base, bringing together more than 1,300 exhibitor booths held by U.S. suppliers of USA travel products and destinations and more than 6,200 attendees, including 1,300 international and domestic travel buyers.
PAX is covering the conference on location, all week, joining more than 500 journalists from more than 70 countries.
The week will also give accredited guests an opportunity to explore Anaheim and its surrounding communities through world-class events and sightseeing tours.
Sunday night's opening night party, for instance, will give delegates an opportunity to explore California’s Disneyland Resort, and be among the first to experience the all-new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run attraction.
Business appointments, press conferences and evening events held by some of America’s leading tourism boards will unfold during the week.
Closing night will be held at Knott's Berry Farm and Buena Park, where guests will have an opportunity to experience interactive attractions, rollercoasters, live entertainment and culinary creations that the Farm is known for
All eyes on Anaheim
This year marks the second time Anaheim has hosted IPW and it's 10th time the event has been held in California.
“Our plan for IPW is simple – transform the way attendees see Anaheim by providing uncommon experience at every turn,” Jay Burress, president and CEO of Visit Anaheim said in a statement.
It’s a big deal for cities that get to host IPW. According to Rockport Analytics, Anaheim and Orange County can expect hundreds of thousands of new visitors in the three years following this year's event, having a direct impact on the region's local economies.
“IPW is only a few days long, but its impact on the region’s economy will be felt for years to come,” said U.S. Travel’s Roger Dow.
