Jamaica’s leading trade event dedicated to generating tourism business is back, this year taking place in the form of an interactive virtual expo.
The Jamaica Product Exchange, otherwise known as JAPEX, will unfold online this year due to the restrictions associated with COVID-19, welcoming supplier and buyer delegates and travel agents from Canada, the United States, Latin America and Europe.

Traditionally held live and in person at venues in Jamaica, this year’s two-day event, taking place from Nov 9-10, still promises the same learning and business opportunities as seen in previous years.
Exciting virtual content
The virtual expo is incorporating the familiar elements of traditional trade shows, such as an opening keynote address (which will focus on the status and resilience of Jamaica's tourism industry), breakout and training sessions, a one-on-one Zoom meeting platform for pre-scheduled meetings with partners, a networking lounge and even a prize centre.
There will be an “Exhibition Hall” featuring interactive booths, offering sharable content and chat functions to participants.
The show floor, too, will be configured as an interactive Google map by region – Negril, South Coast, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Kingston, and Portland – and videos will auto-play to engage attendees as they enter each region.
For travel agents who have never attended JAPEX, this event is an excellent opportunity to interact with Jamaican hoteliers on the island, connect with partners you may not have had the chance to meet with before, and ask important questions about the destination.
Celebrating 30 years
Now in its 30th year (the expo started in 1990), JAPEX Live 2020 is presented by the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association in partnership with the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB).
"We are looking forward to welcoming Canadian travel agents at the 30th annual JAPEX product exchange this November," Angella Bennett, regional director — Canada at the JTB, told PAX in a statement. "While this year’s event might look a little different, we’re excited to offer an innovative new platform to give agents the opportunity to network in real time with Jamaica’s hoteliers and tourism suppliers while learning about the latest developments on island. Attendees will also have a chance to take part in valuable training sessions, set up one-on-one virtual meetings, and win some fantastic prizes. I encourage agents to register for JAPEX 2020 online now."
Agents that have questions about the event are encouraged to reach out to the JTB Canada team, Bennett added.
"We’re always here to help!” she said.
There is no fee for travel agents to attend JAPEX. Advisors can click here to register and simply select the ’Travel Advisor/Travel Agent/Meeting Planner’ category to sign up for the event.
