Sunwing revises fall schedule, calls on Ottawa to ease 14-day quarantine

Sunwing revises fall schedule, calls on Ottawa to ease 14-day quarantine

In early August, Sunwing Travel Group unveiled a Caribbean restart program for September.

The tour operator at that time spoke of offering a limited schedule with flights from Montreal to Cancun, Punta Cana, Varadero and Cayo Coco (and from Toronto to Cancún, Varadero, Cayo Coco, Punta Cana and Montego Bay).

In mid-August, in an exclusive interview with PAX, Andrew Dawson, COO of Sunwing, indicated that this restart would likely be delayed.

“To start operating a program, there has to be demand, week in and week out,” said Dawson. “You don’t want to lose more by flying when there’s no demand.”

So here we are in September and, indeed, Sunwing does not plan to resume flights immediately.

“Sunwing Airlines continues to review and revise flight schedules for September and October departures,” Sunwing said in a statement to PAX .

Sunwing is eager to resume operations, but the current conditions, unfortunately, are not yet suitable.

In this regard, the tour operator points to the restrictions imposed by the Government of Canada on trips and their impact on consumer demand.

"We expect the Canadian government to follow other countries in developing processes to safely reopen international travel to countries like the Caribbean where COVID rates are low, without the need. to conduct a mandatory 14-day quarantine," stated Sunwing.

In case of flight cancellation ...

In the event of a flight cancellation, Sunwing states that it does everything possible, as a tour operator, "to offer customers an alternative destination or flights with other carriers at no additional cost."

On its website, Sunwing outlines three options for customers affected by cancelled flights from September 1st to October 31st, such as providing customers with another destination, travel with another airline at no additional cost or offering a travel credit for the value of the amount paid at the time of the change.

Sunwing advises that travel credits can be applied to subsequent travel to any destination that Sunwing Airlines serves, depending on the original departure date and that the original departure dates from September 1 to October 31, 2020 are exchangeable until as of October 31, 2022.

As of November 1, 2020, the usual terms and conditions apply to changes and cancellations.

"We look forward to resuming our flights to top sun destinations and giving our customers the vacation they have been waiting for," Sunwing states.
