Following several months of extensive renovations, RIU Hotels & Resorts will open its Riu Cancun hotel on Aug. 2, featuring a modern look and new services in the heart of Cancun's hotel zone.
The $30 million renovation of the hotel, which first opened in 2003, included all the guest rooms, restaurants, pool areas and gardens as well as the lobby and façade, which now features a modern metal and glass entrance.
Rooms at the Riu Cancun have been fully refurbished with a fresh, modern style, with large showers replacing baths (except in the suites, which will feature showers and whirlpool baths). Rooms will also now feature amenities such as electronic safes, flat screen 40-inch TVs, and WiFi internet connection.
Renovations have also taken place in both the main restaurant Miramar and the pool restaurant, which is now divided into the enclosed and heated Coral area, and the Turquoise terrace. In addition, the hotel has a Japanese restaurant, Kawachi, and a new Italian restaurant, La Toscana.
The hotel features a new aquatic bar called Wet’n Drinking, as well as upgrades to all of its existing bars including La Fiesta, which now has a large terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea along with an enclosed area.
