The cruise industry is no stranger to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Still, some are mobilizing their recovery plans, so that as soon as its safe to do so, their ships can resume their scheduled sailings.
This is the case of Oceana Tours, which recently announced a series of new features, including a complete travel insurance program.
Insurance for all trips
Adequate insurance coverage is certainly one of the most problematic issues surrounding COVID-19.
Oceana Tours has teamed up with Crum & Forster insurance company, SPCtravel Insurance, and GBG Insurance Limited to launch Oceana Care, a comprehensive travel insurance program that takes COVID-19 into account.
“We have noticed that one of the biggest fears of travellers is the insurance problem,” explained Jason O'Connell, founding president of Oceana Tours. “We wanted, at our level, to put an end to this. So, we worked hard to find comprehensive insurance, covering travellers all over the world, unrelated to current travel reviews, and at reasonable prices."
Making it easy for agents
Oceana Tours has also updated its website to include more support tools for travel advisors.
Agents can now book one or more packages directly online, without going over the phone.
“This is a first for us! The advisors will be able to see and reserve the products that we offer," explained O'Connell, adding in passing that Oceana Tours now offers Virgin Voyages cruises, alongside its traditional NCL and MSC product.
“The Virgin Voyages ships are going to be incredible,” O'Connell said. "It's very exciting to have been able to add them to our product offering and offer them for sale to agents."
Whether it's repatriation, cancellation, trip interruption or even medical interventions, Oceana Care can take care of all aspects of the trip, anywhere in the world, with several protection plans depending on the needs of the traveller.
Several plans specifically cover the United States, which is a traditional departure points for many cruises. However, although offered by a specialist cruise tour operator, Oceana Care is not specific to cruise ships. These insurances can even be taken out by the agents on behalf of their clients, without them being obliged to purchase any Oceana Tours cruise product.

Norwegian Encore FAM
The tour operator is also organizing a FAM trip aboard NCL's Norwegian Encore for travel counselors (and their companions) from Nov. 12th-17th, 2020.
“It will be a good opportunity for agents to see one of our flagship products,” O'Connell said. “But above all, it will be a magnificent celebration of the resumption of cruises. A return to sea after months without being able to sail. Agents are also encouraged to bring their best clients. What better way to reassure their customers by showing them how the cruise takes to the sea again!"
