On Sept. 14, Hola Sun Holidays celebrated its 27th anniversary with an Agent Appreciation Night, held at Le Tréport Banquet Hall.

“This is a way to tell the agents thank you for all of the support they provide us throughout the year,” said Hugo Rocha, sales director, Hola Sun Holidays.

New hotel developments

With increased capacity from Air Transat, it’s expected that Cuba will see even more Canadians than it did in 2017, when record numbers were recorded.

“Air Transat is now one of our main airline providers, and we’re looking forward to the next winter season, which we hope will be a success,” Rocha said.

Eloy Govea, director, Cuba Tourist Board in Toronto, added:

“During this year’s FITCuba, the Minister announced that 287 hotels will have Wi-Fi. Despite last year’s hurricanes, it took us just a few hours to be operating once more, and just a few months to have things back to business as usual. Now, I can tell you that we are better than ever; if anything, the hurricanes served us—we’ve been able to upgrade our existing properties, and add seven new properties that will open this winter, including a hotel dedicated to the LGBTQ community.”

Several four- and five-star hotels are opening in Cuba, including Melia International Varadero, Paradisus Los Cabos in Cayo Santa Maria, and the newly-opened Iberostar Grand Pacquard in Havana, which is the second five-star hotel in Havana.

“We’re excited to bring back hotels that opened in March 2018, such as Sercotel Cayo Santa Maria, and also Grand Muthu Guillermo,” Roca added.

Motor coaches are coming

With adventure tourism reaching new heights, quite literally in Cuba, with the announcement of hot air balloon rides coming to Cuba at this year’s FITCuba, another new product is coming to the country.

“Motor coaches are a new concept that we are trying to expand in Cuba, and we’ll also be offering bike tours,” Rocha explained. “We’re targeting a different segment that the regular all-inclusive resorts might not have; we want Canadians to experience the island in different ways.”

Hola Sun will partner with local Cuban tour operators to offer these motor coach tours, which will be offered in various destinations throughout the island.

Agent incentives

Hola Sun Holidays has several incentives and prizes in place for agents who book with the tour operator’s hotel partners.

Group bookings require a zero-dollar deposit, and all agents who complete a group booking will receive an additional two per cent commission. The current promotion, Hola 100, will continue, as will the agent loyalty program: for every passenger sent to Cuba, the agent earns $10 which can be used towards their next holiday, which can be used for up to 900 days.
