With Canadian restrictions easing on quarantine for double vaccinated travellers come July 5, 2021, the time has come to dust off passports and start putting plans into motion. To spark some wanderlust, Contiki is sharing the top trending experiences Canadian millennials and Gen Z are yearning for.

Key findings based on data from over 10,000 unique searches revealed young Canadians are still considering domestic travel, but primarily have their minds set on international destinations across Europe and Asia, with 92 per cent of bookings being made for travel in 2022.

The most popular international destinations Contiki travellers are looking at for their next adventure abroad are Greece, Italy and Thailand.

Shorter, more sustainable adventures are also an emerging trend beyond the most-searched-for destinations, as millennials and Gen Z are seeking quick Detours to get off the tourist trail.

A Mykonos and Santorini Island Escape is the perfect way for Canadians to ease back into travel. Soak up the sun on a private cruise around Mykonos with swim stops and picnics planned along the way, enjoy a ‘Special Stay’ at Paradise Beach Resort and soak up the sun from Santorini’s famous black sand beach before cruising to a volcano and melting worries away in the hot springs. With strolls through cobblestone streets, visits to Greece’s iconic sights of the Acropolis and Delos and a feast of authentic Greek dishes accompanied by traditional Greek dancing in the heart of Athens' historic Plaka district, this trip truly provides the perfect combination of relaxation and exploration.

La Dolce Vita is calling, and Canadians are ready to embrace it. Discover Simply Italy while helping to “Make Travel Matter” along the way with a Contiki Cares experience dining at Altrove Restaurant in Rome, a social enterprise that supports youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. On the Amalfi Coast, support a local family on a visit to their lemon farm to see lemon groves, learn how these huge, sunshine-coloured fruits are harvested and trying homemade limoncello. The Cinque Terre is another must-see in Italy, and travellers can explore the incredible pastel towns of the Cinque Terre by hike, train or both before a lesson in making the perfect pesto and enjoying it with fresh pasta.

Canadians are clearly longing to chill in tropical places as another trending bucket list destination for travel’s return is Thailand. Some Southern Thai Highlights include spending time in Khao Sok National Park and seeing its limestone karsts by canoe, learning how to make Pad Thai during a traditional cooking class and cruising Cheow Larn Lake to discover the limestone cliffs and towering forest. In Koh Lanta, visit the non-profit Lanta Animal Welfare and Rescue centre to meet the cats and dogs up for adoption and relax with an afternoon surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of the coast. The trip begins and ends on Thailand’s largest island, Phuket surrounded by magnificent beaches and stunning sunsets.

Contiki’s Flexibility Promise allows travellers to change travel plans up to 30 days prior to the trip’s departure date – fee free.
