Antoine has worked as a journalist for a publication specializing in the great outdoors. His love of travel comes from the time he spent outdoors growing up. Originally from France, relocated to Quebec, he is curious about everything, from what is happening in his own backyard to what's going on at the other end of the world.

Air Canada Vacations has unveiled two new trips to Portugal, following the launch of its new 2019 Europe Collection.

Culinary and gastronomic offerings of Portugal will be on full display with the new trips, and ACV has partnered with Groupe Ferreira, a culinary concept featuring four restaurants cherished by the people of Montreal.

The following two trips are now available through ACV:

  • The flavors of Portugal : 10 days, eight nights: Lisbon - √Čvora - Ferreira do Alentejo - Beja-Lagos Sagres - Silves - Faro - Olhao - Castro-Marim - Tavira
  • The taste of northern Portugal: 12 days, 10 nights:  Lisbon - Sintra - Obidos - Nazar√© - Sangalmos - Porto - Douro Valley - Coimbra

Air Canada Vacations says it was inspired by the web series, Portugal Gourmand, a ten-episode series that followed in the footsteps of Claudia Ferreira as she made her way through Portugal to learn more about the traditional methods of harvesting some of the most popular ingredients of the country.

"Travellers are looking for more and more authentic culinary and sensory experiences, and Air Canada Vacations is committed to finding unique experiences to create memorable moments for our customers," said Selma Filali, senior director of marketing and e-commerce at Air Canada Vacations. "With these trips, we wanted to combine the very personal knowledge of the Ferreira family on Portugal, their culinary expertise, and our 37 years of experience to build a unique holiday."

From a local point of view

Going off the beaten track and really getting to know the real, authentic Portugal was a goal of Air Canada Vacations, and it was achieved by partnering with the Ferreira family.

"People are tired of going to tourist traps. Travellers want to know the secret places, the ones that only the locals know," said Luigi Iannello, senior director, strategy and business development at Air Canada Vacations. "Portugal is easy to visit by car. You can browse it easily, from north to south. That's why we partnered with the Ferreira family. They know their country!"
