If there’s one thing Aubrey Schmidt can’t stand right now, it’s the words and phrases that have hijacked the way we talk about travel.
“The new normal.”
You've heard them all before.
Schmidt, a business development manager for Goway, recently took to his Facebook page to say that he’s “sooooooo sick” of these COVID-19 buzzwords and urged people to view the pandemic as "temporary" because travel, very soon, will return.
Always one to unearth the fun in situations, Schmidt (with the help of his nephew) created a YouTube video featuring images of his favourite Canadian travel advisors doing what they love – travel.
The uplifting slideshow is set to the song “The Journey” by Canadian country singer Paul Brandt (“One of my favourites,” said Schmidt).
“I think [the song] is a great fit for our industry that is suffering right now,” he wrote.
The song encourages listeners to “leave the doubt and worry behind” amid a “momentary complication” – fitting words in today’s coronavirus climate.
“I know it's gonna be better when we finally get there,” Brandt sings, appropriately.
Schmidt’s positive attitude is, absolutely, a breath of fresh air amid the doom and gloom of each day’s news cycle.
“In the video you'll see some of my favourite travel agents from across the country. You were travelling in those pics and smiling!!! That will be all of us again soon!” wrote Schmidt. “And the same goes for my non-travel agent friends…You, too, will be travelling again soon and hopefully reaching out to your favourite travel agent to plan your next vacation!!”
If there was a time for hearing some words of encouragement, it’s now.
