Starting Monday (June 22nd), Parks Canada will gradually start reopening its camp sites, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed.

“No matter what you’re planning this summer, whether its camping or barbecues, keep following public health recommendations and keep doing your part to protect the people around you,” Trudeau told reporters at his daily press briefing from Ottawa on Wednesday (June 17th).

Parks Canada will gradually resume operations at a number of national parks and historic sites across Canada. This will, at first, only be open to those with existing reservations.

Canada’s national parks, historic sites and marine conservation sites closed in March to help halt the spread of COVID-19.

Some national parks were reopened on June 1st as restrictions lifted, but camping facilities at those sites remained closed as Parks Canada looked at ways to improve health and safety.

National parks will gradually begin to accept new online reservations for some campgrounds in the coming weeks.
