The industry remembers Douglas Hamer

The travel industry is remembering Red Seal Tours’ Douglas Hamer, who passed away in White Rock, BC last Friday (Feb. 23) following a five-year battle with cancer.

Born in London, England, Hamer worked for SAS and Swiss Air, later immigrating with his family to Toronto in 1968 where he continued his travel industry career with roles at Air Canada, Swiss Air and CP Air, later joining CTAL (which later became Holiday House. Hamer then owned and operated Red Seal Tours until his retirement in 2001; the company would later become what is now Sunwing Vacations.

Hamer was also past president (1989) of Toronto Skal Club and was a Skal member for 39 years and was actively involved in ACTA and TICO over the years.

Hamer is survived by his loving spouse, Hee Kim, and his two sons Paul and Dominic.
