Here's the flights & cruises that may have exposed Canadians to COVID-19

Are your customers asking if they might have been exposed to COVID-19 during their cruise, international flight, domestic flight, or even train trip?

There’s a list out there that may have answers.

The Government of Canada maintains a detailed list of each event or route where cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed since March 15th. This list is updated daily.

COVID-19 on cruises

In the case of cruises, there were 10 entries on the list as of Friday (April 3rd).

According to the list, the cruises where Canadian passengers may have been exposed to COVID-19 are the following:

• Celebrity Reflection (Caribbean, March 2-13)
• Celebrity Solstice (Pacific, March 10-20)
• Celebrity Silhouette (Caribbean, March 6 to 15)
• Celebrity Summit (Caribbean, March 8-16)
• Costa Luminosa (transatlantic, from March 5 to 19)
• MSC Splendida (Indian Ocean and Mediterranean, from February 27 to March 27)
• MSC Meraviglia (Caribbean, March 8-16)
• Norwegian Encore (Caribbean, March 8-15)
• Ruby Princess (Australia, March 8-19)
• Sea Princess (Australia, March 8-18)

Zaandam and Rotterdam

Interestingly, at the time of posting this article, the list did not refer to ships Holland America Line’s Zaandam and Rotterdam, which have been the subject of headlines lately as both ships have reported cases of COVID-19 and have Canadians on board.

In this regard, Global Affairs Canada was delighted yesterday that these ships were authorized to dock at Port Everglades.

"Canadian passengers aboard the MS Zaandam will soon be back home," said Minister of Foreign Affairs François-Philippe Champagne.

Global Affairs Canada clarified that passengers on Zaandam and Rotterdam will be screened for health and that asymptomatic passengers will later travel to Canada on a charter flight.

“Upon arrival, they will again be subjected to a health check and will be required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days. Passengers who show symptoms after disembarking from ships will be treated on site, ” Global Affairs Canada stated.

Exposure on international flights

According to the Government of Canada's page on events and routes on which Canadians may have been exposed to COVID-19, cases have been confirmed on no fewer than 177 international flights after March 15th. 

(The page does not identify flights that took place before this date).

The information shared on the site specifies the airline, the date and flight number, the departure and arrival cities, and even the affected rows where information is known.

For domestic flights, the list includes 88 in which cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed.

For train travel, the list shows that passengers may have been exposed on five VIA Rail journeys.
