The UP Express trains that connect Toronto’s downtown Union Station to Pearson Airport (YYZ) are up and running again after the service was suspended on Saturday (Feb. 11) due to maintenance issues.

In a tweet posted early Sunday (Feb. 12), Metrolinx said its trains will resume 30-minute service, making all stops between downtown and the airport.

“Thank you for your patience as we made some necessary repairs to our trains,” the crown agency wrote about the rail link, which transports passengers from downtown to Pearson airport in 25 minutes.

The repairs were related to hairline cracks that were found in the brake discs on some of the trains, reports say.

The damages were discovered during regular inspections over the weekend, said Metrolinx, which, as a precaution, removed its entire fleet from service.

“In the interest of safety, we immediately removed the affected trains from service and proactively inspected the rest of our fleet,” Metrolinx wrote in an emailed statement to CTV News on Sunday.

Prior to the shutdown, just four of 18 trains had been running on a 30-minute schedule as of Feb. 7 due to the equipment issues.

The agency says it has now “made some necessary repairs” to its trains.
