Riviera makes way for new Las Vegas convention centre

Riviera makes way for new Las Vegas convention centre

Las Vegas marked the end of an era this week with the demolition of the last tower of the Riviera Hotel & Casino, as the property makes way for an expanded Las Vegas Convention Centre.

The casino’s Monte Carlo tower was demolished early Tuesday morning (Aug. 16), two months after the Riviera’s Monaco tower was knocked down. The 60-year old hotel was closed in May 2015 after the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority purchased the property for an expansion of the convention centre, expected to be completed in January.

One of Sin City’s iconic properties, the Riviera provided the setting for countless movies including the original Ocean’s 11, Diamonds Are Forever and Casino.
