
An explosion at the RIU Reggae in Montego Bay has killed one hotel employee and injured up to four other individuals, according to local news reports.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that the explosion took place in the boiler room of the recently-opened property yesterday (April 20) after 1 p.m. Reports in the Gleaner and on IrieFM state that either three or four other employees were injured and taken to hospital. Quoting Jamaica Fire Brigade Public Relations Officer Emilio Ebanks, the cause of the explosion is yet to be determined and the hotel will remain open, the Gleaner reported.
The property opened its doors to guests on Nov. 19.
