Club Med Charlevoix, Canada's first-ever Club Med Village, will now open in December 2021, exactly one year later than its previously announced grand opening date of December 2020.
The announcement came on Sept. 20 from Club Med and Groupe Le Massif, citing that the year-long delay is a direct result of changes made to the construction schedule. In a press release, Group Le Massif stated that it had to review its timetable due to Quebec’s booming construction market.
"The labour shortages in Quebec’s construction industry have led us to postpone the opening of the Club Med for a year," said André Roy, executive vice-president and general manager, Groupe Le Massif.
“Club Med’s commitment to the local communities and the integrity of its resorts is at the forefront of each new construction project,” added Carolyne Doyon, president and CEO, Club Med North America. “We are taking advantage of this extra time to continue to create a unique experience that will be true to the Quebec and Charlevoix identities while staying committed to engaging with local suppliers and partners.”
The announcement to build Club Med Charlevoix came back in 2017, with the original plan being to open the resort by the end of 2020. In July 2018, the resort was given its name, and construction was well underway. Promising a design that is uniquely Canadian with Quebec heritage, the Club Med Charlevoix will be a 4-Trident Village will have 302 rooms and a luxurious 5-Trident space with suites overlooking the river.
