Talks have begun for the sale of Florida-based Club Med Sandpiper Bay to Altitude International Holdings (ALTD).
“There are still ongoing discussions for a transaction concerning our Sandpiper Bay Village,” confirmed Vincent Giraud, managing director of Club Med Canada and North America sales operations, in a statement to PAX.
“This is one of our historic villages, [operating for] more than 40 years. We therefore have a very special attachment to it, to its region and to the entire local community. We will continue to operate this village until the transaction is completed.”
If the transaction goes through, the property will continue to operate, except under a different name, and it will become Altitude's global headquarters.
Club Med Sandpiper Bay is an all-inclusive, family-focused, sports-oriented Treasure Coast resort that’s roughly 182 km from Miami and 209 km from Orlando, overlooking the St. Lucie River on the Atlantic coast.
Major renovations planned, but no closure
ALTD signed a purchase and sale agreement on May 31, 2022 with Club Med Sandpiper Bay.
After the closing of the agreement, Altitude Academies (a wholly-owned subsidiary of ALTD) intends to continue operating the complex without temporary closure.
“While it will no longer carry the Club Med name, we are thrilled to see the resort grow and prosper as Altitude's global destination headquarters. The current team of Club Med employees are an incredible asset to the property, with many years of experience, and they will soon have the opportunity to work with the Altitude team after closing,” said Greg Breunich, CEO of ALTD, in a July 12 statement.
In a press release, Altitude said the property covers more than 200 acres. The company says it includes "a 335-room waterfront hotel, golf course and driving range, tennis and pickleball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, marina and all the amenities of a full-service resort.”
“The resort will continue to operate after the departure of Club Med and, while in operation, it will undergo extensive renovations which will be completed over the next two years. This is an integral part of Altitude International Holdings, Inc.'s long-term development plan for the property,” said Breunich.
In its release, Altitude International Holdings also assured that it would honour all reservations already made from Sept. 6, 2022 “for those who wish to preserve their stay at Sandpiper Bay.”
ALTD invites people wishing to obtain information about this to contact firstname.lastname@example.org or +1-772-323-0625.
Hotel & sports development
In its release, Altitude also stated that its long-term vision for this project is to integrate the operation of the resort complex and its sports academy into an overall real estate development strategy "recognized worldwide as a world-class centre for hotel and sports development opportunities.”
Altitude believes that the repositioning of Club Med Sandpiper Bay will allow the continued growth of the sports academy and the hotel, while maintaining its status as a global destination and improving the offers which will have a favourable economic impact on the local community.
