No injuries in Celestyal Cruises collision

No injuries were reported after a Celestyal Cruises vessel bound for Istanbul collided with a tanker in The Dardanelles this weekend.

According to a statement from Celestyal, the Maltese-flagged MV Celestyal Crystal collided with the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker STI PIMLICO on June 27 at around 1:28 a.m. local time.

All 852 passengers (including 42 Canadians) and the 382 members of crew are well, along with the crewmembers of the tanker. The cruise ship  suffered some structural damages and awaits inspection from its class surveyor, Celestyal said. Passengers have been given a number of complimentary options, including a refund on their cruise fare and a complimentary seven-day cruise.

The narrow strait where the collision took place connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, roughly marking the boundary between Europe and Asia.
