Celebrity names first female captain

Celebrity Cruises has named Kate McCue as the line's first female captain, beginning her new role on the Celebrity Summit in August.

McCue, 37, will command the 2,158-capacity ship during sailings between the eastern U.S. and Bermuda. The appointment will see McCue become the first U.S. woman to captain a ship in a major cruise line.

During her tenure, McCue has managed ship logistics while sailing worldwide itineraries, and also served as a maritime leader while sailing several transatlantic and repositioning cruises.
