D23 Expo 2022 – the ultimate Disney fan event – wrapped up at the Anaheim Convention Center this past weekend with updates on projects that will soon debut at Disneyland Resort in California.

As reported by Disney Parks Blog, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, shared many announcements pertaining to the “The Happiest Place On Earth.”

At Disneyland Resort, the Disney100 anniversary celebration will kick off in late January 2023 with limited-time celebrations throughout the year, including two all-new nighttime spectaculars: “World of Color – One” at Disney California Adventure Park and “Wondrous Journeys” at Disneyland Park.

Meanwhile, the “Magic Happens” parade will return to Disneyland Park in the spring.

As for park updates, The Mandalorian and Grogu will make their first appearance on Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge starting in mid-November.

New heroes & villains at Avengers Campus

New heroes (and villains) are also coming to Avengers Campus.

More than 35 different characters have already made appearances in Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure park since it opened last year.

Beginning next week, for a limited time, guests may have encounters with The Incredible Hulk, who will appear in his Quantum Suit inside Avengers Campus.

Avengers Campus will also soon introduce a third attraction.

During the Legends Ceremony at D23 Expo on Sept. 9, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will soon feature a new story that will bring guests into battle alongside their favourite super heroes.

The new concept will be “an epic family adventure,” where guests team up with more of the Avengers and their allies to battle against foes from the multiverse, including King Thanos, a villain designed specifically for Avengers Campus.

Reimagined Pacific Wharf

Pacific Wharf in Disney California Adventure park, which evokes San Francisco’s waterfront, is in the process of being reimagining into San Fransokyo from “Big Hero 6,” where East meets West, and “technology meets tradition.”

There will reportedly be a place to meet Baymax, plus new spots to eat and shop.

Paradise Pier Hotel to become Pixar Place Hotel

As previously reported, Disney is reimagining its Paradise Pier Hotel with a Pixar theme called Pixar Place Hotel.

SoCal favourite Great Maple will also open a flagship restaurant on the first floor and operate other food and beverage locations throughout the hotel.

Downtown Disney District will also welcome Porto’s Bakery and Café in the future.

According to Disney Parks Blog, the reimagined hotel will “weave the artistry of Pixar into its comfortable, contemporary setting,” including special areas like a “Finding Nemo”-themed splash pad area.

The evolution of the Downtown Disney District will continue with more food offerings, such as Din Tai Fung, a world-renowned Asian restaurant that originated in Taiwan and specializes in soup dumplings.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway & Mickey’s Toontown

New details on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Mickey’s Toontown, opening in early 2023, were shared.

An “ambitious” transformation of Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland park is underway and will reopen as a “vibrant symphony of sights, sounds and sensations.”

Coming to Mickey’s Toontown will be a new attraction, the family-friendly and adventurous Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which is currently operating at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Disney Imagineers are making “clever adjustments” to the attraction to ensure it perfectly fits into the story of Mickey’s Toontown, Disney Parks Blog reports.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – coming in late 2024

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open at Disneyland Resort (and Walt Disney World Resort) in late 2024.

The new attraction’s story will pick up where “The Princess and the Frog” left off during Carnival season, when Tiana is hosting a party for the people of New Orleans.

On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, guests will join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou, where they meet unexpected new friends who have a special role to play at the party.

The attraction will incorporate voices from the hit film, including Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, and the one and only Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana.

Disney100 Celebration

As mentioned, the Disney100 anniversary celebration will begin in late January 2023 with limited-time celebrations taking place throughout the year.

Disneyland will receive new platinum-infused décor, new sparkling looks for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and other characters, special food and beverage offerings, and more.

“World of Color – One” will celebrate the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney with a new story of how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change.

It brings some of the most loved characters to life “in new ways,” Disney Parks Blog reports, and the show will feature a new original song, “Start a Wave.”

“Wondrous Journeys” is a new nighttime show that will feature nods to all 60 Walt Disney Animation Studios films to date, taking guests on a journey filled with artistry, music, storytelling and heart.

It will continue to build upon the park’s projection effects, turning Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the Rivers of America into an artist’s canvas that brings characters to life amid fireworks.

“Wondrous Journeys” will also feature a new song, “It’s Wondrous,” which D23 Expo fans heard for the first time over the weekend.
