Winter weather causing travel chaos in eastern U.S.

Thousands of flights have been delayed or cancelled as an unusual winter weather pattern batters the eastern U.S., bringing snow to regions as far south as Tallahassee, Florida.

The storm, known as a ‘bomb cyclone,’ has brought whiteout conditions to regions along the Atlantic coast, travelling northeast through New England today (Jan. 4). Several U.S. airports, including Atlanta’s Hartfield Jackson International, Miami International and JFK, are advising travelers to check the status of their flights.

The storm comes following a blast of winter weather on New Year’s Day in Eastern Canada, which delayed or grounded hundreds of flights in and out of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa; with the latest storm to the south prompting winter weather advisories from Environment Canada, Canadian airports are bracing for even more complications this week.
