As previously reported, the United States government has announced that all foreign visitors (including Canadians) to the U.S. by air will need to get a pre-departure COVID-19 test no later than one day before their departure.

The new rules go into effect Monday at 12:01 a.m. EST and affect all air passengers two years and older flying into the U.S. from a foreign county, regardless of vaccination status or nationality.

Travellers who can show proof that they have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days are exempt.

Air Canada, on Friday (Dec. 3), issued a reminder about its partnership with Switch Health, a Canadian-based healthcare company that has developed portable self-administered COVID-19 molecular and antigen test kits.

If you’re travelling to the U.S., Air Canada and Switch Health have antigen tests available to customers that they can purchase immediately and can be self-administered from the comfort of their home within one day of departure and results are given within 45 minutes of taking the test.

Aeroplan Members have exclusive access to preferred pricing on all Switch Health testing products.

More RT-LAMP kits coming

In addition, Switch Health will have more RT-LAMP Test Kits available for purchase on Sunday, Dec. 5 for travellers who are looking for a portable self-administered test to take on their trip prior to their flight home that satisfies the Government of Canada testing entry requirements without the need to visit a foreign COVID-19 testing clinic.

These kits "make travelling abroad easier and more predictable, and they don’t require any lab processing and the results are received in under 45 minutes with an official electronic report suitable for travel," says Air Canada.

RT-LAMP test kits start at $149 plus applicable taxes and Aeroplan Members can earn 500 points for their purchase.

These tests can also be found at the Aeroplan eStore or purchased at www.switchhealth.ca/aeroplan.

Customers can visit aircanada.com/switchhealth for all the details or order a test kit at switchhealth.ca/aeroplan or redeem at aircanada.com/estore.
