Toronto Pearson's YYZ Express service expands hours

Toronto Pearson's “YYZ Express” service is expanding its hours to offer passengers more flexibility, according to an update posted by the busy airport.

YYZ Express – an online reservation system for security screening that was introduced last year to better manage queue lengths and wait times – will now be offered between 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Terminal 1 at the D Gates and between 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in Terminal 3 at the B and C Gates.

Reservations and walk-up appointments are available daily for all domestic and international departing passengers (except for flights departing to the U.S.)

How does it work?

YYZ Express was introduced last year as a tool for speeding up airport security lines following a turbulent summer of air travel inefficiencies. The service is now used at many major airports in Canada.

The idea is for travellers to schedule a reservation for airport screening ahead of time – or when they’re at the airport – so they have more time for pre-flight rest, relaxation (or mimosas, if you will).

Appointments can be made 72 hours before a scheduled departure time, but passengers can also sign up on arrival at the airport.

There is no account registration or login required for this express service, which is optional.

Passengers using YYZ Express will be asked to select the date of departure, destination airport, airline, flight number and party size.

They will also be asked to provide an email to receive the reservation confirmation, which includes a free attached QR code.

When it’s time to arrive at their assigned checkpoint, passengers simply flash their QR code and presto: officers will screen them from there.

Nothing to see here for NEXUS users as they already have their own “Trusted Traveller” express lines. But for everyone else looking to jump to the front of the line, there’s YYZ Express.
