Before weakening into a tropical storm Tuesday, Hurricane Odile slammed Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, leaving stunned travellers and residents in its wake.
The hurricane passed through the popular tourist destination over the weekend, leaving travellers stranded as the storm hammered the region with high winds and heavy rain. Although much damage to buildings and vehicles was reported, no deaths have so far been attributed to the storm, says a report by the Wall Street Journal.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that the storm weakened as it crossed land, dying down to a tropical storm by Tuesday morning. The NHC also warned Tuesday that threats of heavy rainfall and flooding remain for Baja, as well as other parts of northern Mexico and the southwestern U.S.
