The Canadian Transportation Agency has granted Flair Airlines authorization to operate a scheduled international service (large aircraft) between Canada and Mexico.

In its decision published on Sept. 8, the CTA says it is convinced that the ultra-low cost carrier meets all the applicable conditions of the Canada Transportation Act (CTA) .

The Agency is also satisfied that Flair's application meets the relevant conditions of the Air Transport Agreement  igned on July 27, 2018 by the Government of Canada and the Government of Mexico.

Consequently, the Agency issued the license requested by Flair, while subjecting it to the conditions prescribed by the Air Transport Regulations.

The exact details of Flair's intentions to fly to Mexico are still unknown.

The obtaining of a new license comes as the the airline continues to grow its domestic and U.S. product.

Expansion in the U.S.

In July, Flair announced that it will offer non-stop flights to six U.S. destinations - Fort Lauderdale, Orlando-Sanford, Phoenix-Mesa, Hollywood-Burbank, Palm Springs and Las Vegas - this October.

Halifax, Montreal, Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Abbotsford will receive the services.

“For years, Canadians have been over-paying for air travel to domestic and U.S destinations," Stephen Jones, president and CEO of Flair Airlines, said at the time. "Flair is here to ensure that Canadians are no longer taken advantage of and receive low prices for even better service. The fares to our new destinations ensure Canadians can easily enjoy travel this winter and spend some much-deserved time away exploring sunny new places.”

Flair, at the time, said it intends to serve 26 destinations in Canada and the U.S. and increase its fleet to 50 aircraft over the next five years.
