Air Canada will be cutting its route between Toronto (YYZ) and Doha, Qatar (DOH) at the end of the month.

According to reports, the long-haul route is being suspended indefinitely, effective Feb. 1, and the decision was reportedly made for commercial reasons.

Air Canada began service between Toronto’s Pearson airport and Doha’s Hamad International Airport in December 2020, initially operating three times per week using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

The airline also signed a codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways in November 2020 ahead of the launch.

Following this partnership, frequencies increased to four times weekly in July 2021 and remained there until recently, when the route was reduced to three round trips per week, reports say.

The suspension of the route will leave Dubai and Tel Aviv as the only two points in the Middle East to be served nonstop by Air Canada.

The airline currently flies to both destinations six times per week.
