“To be selected for this top honour is definitely one of the highlights of my career,” Wendy Davis, owner of Ontario-based Zebrano Travel, told PAX.
Davis, last month, was awarded the Ruby of Siam at Virtuoso Travel Week, which ran both virtually and in-person from Aug. 8-13 in Las Vegas at Bellagio Resort & Casino, ARIA Resort & Casino, and Vdara Hotel & Spa.
The event’s closing gala shined a spotlight on the network’s most esteemed travel agencies, advisors, and preferred partners who have risen to meet challenges to lend their support, be it their industry or local communities, promote smarter environmental practices, and empower cultures to thrive.
The "prestigious" Ruby of Siam is an honour with longstanding tradition within Virtuoso since 1987.
Davis was recognized as a Virtuoso member who embodies “the spirit of its network, upholds the highest professional standards, and has worked selflessly to promote the travel advisor profession as well as the Virtuoso network,” stated a news release.
“An incredible honour"
Winning the award was “an incredible honour,” Davis said.
“Virtuoso has been very supportive Zebrano Travel from the time we were asked to join in 2008,” she said. “It was the best decision.”
“Fast-forward to Virtuoso Travel Week 2021, and the Ruby of Siam Award…It’s been a wonderful journey.”
Davis has worked in the travel industry for more than 30 years, having worked for various companies, from Wardair to Sears Travel.
She started her own boutique luxury agency in 2000.
“We are one of the few agencies that charges for our time,’ Davis said. “We have always believed that the travel advisor should be paid more. Yes, you have to deliver exceptional service. And we do, planning epic trips around the world.”
Davis also believes in mentoring other advisors and collaborating with other Virtuoso agencies.
“We can all make a difference in the travel industry. Not just in Canada, but globally,” she said.
“We work in an incredible industry…I never forget this. I love what I do. I have a dream job.”
